7 Health Benefits of Coffee

Much has been written about the effect of coffee on mental and physical health. Rest assured: drinking coffee is not only very tasty, but also healthy! But as with everything: enjoy in moderation (1 to 3 cups a day). Read on to discover the many benefits of coffee.

Physical benefits

1. Coffee contains healthy nutrients

There are quite a few good nutrients in coffee that we don't think about. These include vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, magnesium, potassium, folic acid, phosphorus and a lot of antioxidants. You could almost call coffee a superfood with all these healthy substances!

2. Prevents the risk of diseases

Coffee reduces your risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 10% (with a maximum of 5 cups a day). Coffee also reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease, liver cirrhosis, uterine and liver cancer, and gout. Type 2 Diabetes is also significantly reduced if you drink coffee.

3. It's good for your intestines

Coffee can relieve constipation. It appears that coffee affects both the frequency and consistency of bowel movements in a third of people. A cup of coffee can therefore help!

4. Coffee helps with fat burning

Several studies show that caffeine increases fat burning and metabolic rate. This means you can lose weight by drinking coffee!

5. Physical performance improves significantly

Caffeine increases the adrenaline level in the blood. This is the 'fight or flight' hormone, intended to prepare our body for strenuous physical exertion.

Mental benefits

1. Coffee makes you smarter

Coffee contains a psychoactive substance that has a healthy effect on the mind and behavior. According to research, coffee can improve cognitive functions. Another cup then!

2. Reduced risk of depression

A study of 50,000 women showed that coffee promotes the production of 'happiness hormones'. As a result, coffee acts as a mild antidepressant.

Health benefits of coffee

Drinking coffee can therefore have many benefits, but here too, of course: Drink it in moderation. Drinking too much coffee can cause nausea or high blood pressure. Especially if you drink coffee with additives such as coffee creamer, sugar or syrups, there is a greater chance that you will experience unpleasant side effects more quickly. This will always vary per person, so our advice is: Enjoy those good cups of coffee, but listen to your body.
