Coffee stains are one of the most common mishaps in the home. Whether it's a stain on your favorite shirt, the carpet or fabric furniture, a coffee stain can be an eyesore. But not to worry, we give you some effective methods to remove these stains so that your clothes and furniture will be like new again.

Removing coffee stains from clothing
If you've just spilled coffee all over your clothes, it's best to get right to work with lukewarm water. Soaking your garment directly in a tub of lukewarm water will ensure that the stain will fade and, in some cases, completely disappear. Are there still small residues left or you don't have the opportunity to soak the fabric directly in lukewarm water?
Then use one of the following cleaning methods:
Solution 1: Special cleaners
The best and most effective way to remove stubborn and old coffee stains from your clothes is to use a special stain remover, for example from HG, Ecolab or Dr. Beckmann. These products penetrate deep into the fibers of the fabric and cause the coffee stains to be soaked off, so to speak. Read the instructions for use carefully before using these special cleaners to ensure proper operation.
Solution 2: Ox gall soap
Ox gall soap is a traditionally powerful cleaner that can be used for many different stains, including coffee stains. Apply the ox gall soap to the coffee stain by rubbing, but make sure that you only use circular motions and that you work from the outside in. Failure to do so may result in the stain becoming larger. Never let the ox gall soap dry, but rinse with warm water and machine wash the garment.
Solution 3: Salt or baking soda
You can use salt or baking soda to pretreat garments with still damp coffee stains before washing them. This is because both products have a highly absorbent effect, so they fill up with the coffee residue when you apply them to the stain. For this, you do need to use a generous amount and give it about 10 minutes to soak in. Next, remove the remains of the salt or baking soda before washing the garment in the washing machine. Because much of the coffee has been sucked out of the fabric beforehand, the garment comes out of the machine much cleaner.
Solution 4: Sparkling water
With sparkling water, such as Spa red, you can remove fresh coffee stains. This is because the carbon dioxide gas contained in the sparkling water effectively removes the coffee. So soon after the spill, apply a generous splash of sparkling water to the stain and grab a cloth to dab the water deeper into the fabric's fibers. This will make the stain disappear almost completely. You can remove the last residue by washing the garment on a regular wash cycle.
Solution 5: White natural vinegar
For this cleaning method, you will need a clean cloth and undiluted white vinegar. Use the cloth to apply the vinegar to the coffee stain while dabbing. Do this until the large visible stains are gone and then wash the garment according to the washing instructions to remove the rest. Is this not working? Then you can also soak the garment overnight in a mixture of vinegar (three parts) and cold water (one part). This is also a good solution for dried-in coffee stains.
Solution 6: Alcohol
Dampen a cloth with disinfecting alcohol, or another strong (clear) drink, and rub the coffee stain with it, just until it fades. We recommend you wash the garment afterwards for best results.
Solution 7: Baby wipes
Finally, coffee stains can be removed using baby wipes. This is because it absorbs the liquid. Therefore, you can use this method only for fresh, still damp coffee stains. Use the baby wipes to dab over these, in order to remove as much coffee residue as possible before you put the garment in the wash.
Removing coffee stains from carpet or furniture
If you've just spilled coffee all over your clothes, it's best to get right to work with lukewarm water. Soaking your garment directly in a tub of lukewarm water will ensure that the stain will fade and, in some cases, completely disappear. Are there still small residues left or do you not have the ability to soak the fabric directly in lukewarm water? Then use one of the following cleaning methods:

Solution 1: Stain removers
A special stain remover, such as HG Stain Spray Extra Strong, can also be used to remove coffee stains from carpet or fabric furniture. This product is specially designed for removing coffee stains and other stubborn soiling. Apply this to the stain, let it soak in for a few minutes and then wipe off with a clean damp cloth. Be sure to rinse the surface well afterwards and dry again.
Solution 2: Baby wipes
Use baby wipes to remove (fresh) coffee stains from textiles that cannot be machine-washed. These wipes are highly absorbent and thus ensure that coffee residues are removed effectively. Place several wet wipes on the stain and let it soak in for about 5 minutes, or lightly rub the stain with them (always from the outside in!), just until it is completely faded.
Solution 3: Beer
It may sound very crazy, but you can use beer to remove coffee stains from your carpets. Pour beer over the stain and lightly massage it into the fabric. You may have to repeat this process a few times to achieve the best results. By then treating the fabric well with cold water and letting it dry, you will make sure that the beer smell disappears as well as making your carpets look perfect again.
Oplossing 4: Witte natuurazijn
Using a mixture of vinegar (two parts) and water (one part), you can remove coffee stains from your carpet. When applying this, it is important not to scrub, but rub gently. Then rinse the carpet well with water and repeat until the coffee stain is completely gone.
